Creating a Lamp - 3Ds Max

The object - lamp consists of several parts: bottle, button, glass and flame. The lamps stands on the table, which is bordered by to walls and  floor, creating a corner.

Creating this scene we started with the Bottle of the lamp. We used shape Cylinder, from the Standard Primitives. After place it in the centre of the scene , (using 3 Point Toggle ), we gave dimensions to it.
Then we used shape Torus, placed it to the bottom part of the bottle and with the Boolean operations (found in the compound objects) we substracted it from the bottle, giving the shape of the bottle additional shadow. Then we used  Taper to modify the bottle and decrease the upper radius.

To create the Button, we created small cylinder  and Rotated it for 90 degrees. The second part of the button was created again from the cylinder, but the circles were modified into hexagons. Two parts were fixed along their axis of symmetry.

For creating Glass for the lamp, firstly we drew a curve with a Spline tool and used tool Lathe to create a 3D shape.

Flame was built with the cylinder, having different radiuses on top and bottom. The Noise tool helped to give it more irregular shape.

Walls, floor and Table with four legs were created with the  Box tool.

After finishing designing shapes and volumes, we continued with the materials. We used Material Editor to create new and realistic materials by using photos as maps and changing some properties , like glossiness, specular level, self-illumination ,opacity and e.t.c. To make the materials visible in the perspective view, we chose Realistic Material with Maps.

After creating materials with needed textures and applying them to the already created volumes, we moved on lighting and camera.I placed Free Light on the flame. Then, after placing the Camera,we made a Render  and as the flame was the only source of lighting, there was a high contrast between shadows and light.

After this, to better present the material of the bottle (oxidized copper) I changed the location of the light and brought it outside the lamp.
